Which reminds me, there's this one time when I was working, I saw a really old man (about 70 years old) , in working clothes, carrying a HEAVY LOOKING working bag draped around his chest, and he was actually using like a walking aid that looks like this :

He was quite hunchback, and I really wish I can help him carry his bag..to wherever he want to go. Sigh.
Back to the story,
So knowing her-knowing me, we kinda formed this loyalcustomer + waitress relationship. I would ask her how's her day, whether which new ice cream combo would she want to try this time (she's aiming to try almost everything in our menu), and what I would recommend her to eat for today, and which ice cream is at its best quality (i.e. not watery).
And as usual, I'll serve her a cup of water. I even gave her a 10% membership card (cards specially for staff's friends) , even though she might not know how to activate it on a computer, but just in case. At least I know I've tried my best into reducing her cost....
So...water is self serve.
This big table of young obnoxious people, younger than me or around my age ASKED ME TO SERVE THEM WATER after seeing me serve the old lady water! And I told them, water is self served. I simply refused.
You should see the dirty looks they threw at me.
Why I named this blog title "Worst Case Scenario" is because, what if I said loudly, "This lady is old, that is why I personally serve her water" and offended the old lady? You'll never know if anyone likes to be called old. What if the old lady gets pissed?
I've been thinking about this scenario for quite a bit ,because I'll be serving her water everyday - whenever I work and she visits.
Partly because she's alone, and couldn't really leave her belongings (usually a lot of stuffs) and go take a cup of water, and also because ...before I vowed to serve her water each time I see her.....you know how she take water for herself?
First, she'll order her ice cream, she pays for it instantly, and she eats her ice cream alone, quietly. After finishing the ice cream, she carries a whole lot of bags (usually are bags of tissues that are big and bulky) , go to the self serve water area, and drink water, with big bags or tissues around her hand, and another hand carrying them , too !
OUCH HOW MY HEART ACHE WHEN I THINK BACK...., HOW CAN I EVER EVER EVER LET THIS HAPPEN?!?!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh, how could her relatives/family let that happen.
So then, I came up with a solution. I am going to tell all customers, who expects me to serve them water after seeing me serve the old lady water.....that she's my friend.
Never let your old relative, family, parents ...eat alone. That is about an hour wasted, and could've used it to bond and strengthen relationships amongst each other.
I miss my family. Freaking home sick.

I empathies with what you have gone through. My parents are in their 70s and it seems apparent that they need more care day by day. Lovely blog. :))
